Geoff Plummer - Senior Partner
Geoff was born in Leeds in 1960, the son of a police
officer. He attended the local Grammar School where he passed
a broad selection of ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels
to qualify for a place at the Leeds School of Physiotherapy, based
at the Leeds General Infirmary, in 1978.
On qualifying in 1981, he took the opportunity to
move to Hull to start his career at Hull Royal Infirmary. During
this time he also had the chance to work with Hull Kingston Rovers
FC in providing a physiotherapy service to their players.
Although working full time at HRI, the role at Hull
KR became more and more involved.
Geoff spent a total of 10 years with the club from
1981 to 1991, during which time he was fortunate enough to be
asked to cover the Yorkshire Rugby League squad as well as the
Great Britain Rugby League U21 and main team squad from 1987 to
2001. This culminated in a dream ambition of Geoff’s to
tour Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea with the British
Lions in 1988.
The steep learning curve that Geoff had gone through
helped to consolidate his special interest towards musculo-skeletal
and sports injuries.
His role at HRI was mainly based in the orthopaedic
gymnasium, where he established himself as the senior physiotherapist
specialist in this field.
Along with his wife Jayne, he decided to establish
APSIC in 1985, initially on a part time basis, to enable him to
treat the frequent requests from patients who had begun to hear
of his reputation.
The clinic moved from strength to strength and,
after only a few years Geoff and Jayne had to make the brave decision
to move out of the house they had lived in so that the practice
could expand and eventually all rooms of the property were incorporated
into the clinic.
Due to the increasing demands placed on APSIC, Geoff
decided to withdraw from his hospital and rugby work and concentrate
on private practice.
His clinical expertise remains in the musculo-skeletal
and sports injury areas, where he continues to treat patients,
passing on his wealth of knowledge and experience in these fields.
Outside of work, Geoff enjoys travel, gym, football
(especially watching his two sons) and computers. He has three
children, Chris, Matt and Lizzy and, along with his wife Jayne,
values the time that they spend together as a family.
Jayne Plummer - Senior
Partner
Jayne was born in Hull during the 1960‘s,
her father having established a reputable business based around
the once thriving fishing industry.
She attended St Andrews County Primary School and then went on
to study at Wolfreton School, where she attained good passes in
her ‘O’ and ‘A’ level exams. Whilst at
Wolfreton she achieved her Duke of Edinburgh Award and represented
the school and county in the Youth Orchestra, being a proficient
flautist.
After finishing her ‘A’ levels she went on to study
physiotherapy at Leeds, which is where she met Geoff, her future
husband and business partner.
In 1981 she gained her physiotherapy qualifications and went
to work in the National Health Service at Doncaster Royal Infirmary
for one year.
In 1982 Jayne moved back to Hull, where she and Geoff married,
settled down and bought a house together.
Jayne initially worked at Hull Royal Infirmary, being a respected
member of the respiratory care team, spending much of her time
on intensive care and the paediatric wards. She soon developed
an interest for musculo-skeletal injuries however, often having
to work alongside Geoff in the quickly expanding APSIC, which
she and Geoff set up in 1985.
Since then she has continued to develop her musculo-skeletal
skills and knowledge, playing an important role in introducing
the Occupational Health Services that now form an integral part
of APSIC’s business.
She was also heavily involved in promoting links with local companies
to expand this work even further, not only by establishing on-site
physiotherapy clinics for the industries involved, but also by
setting up a fast track referral system which allowed employees
to be referred directly to APSIC for their treatment via their
Occupational Health Departments. This aspect of the Clinic’s
business continues to grow, moving from strength to strength.
Jayne now has over 20 years of orthopaedic experience and, in
addition to being a well respected, skilful clinician, is invaluable
to the business in the work that she does behind the scenes in
the day to day management at the practice.
Away from work, Jayne enjoys spending time with her husband Geoff
and three children, Chris, Matt and Lizzy. She is a keen gardener
and an excellent cook. Jayne loves socialising and travelling,
and keeps herself fit by attending the gym whenever she can.
Lisa Jenkins - Senior
Clinician
Born in Hull in the 1970‘s, Lisa attended
Wolfreton School where, as well as doing her Duke of Edinburgh
Award, achieving bronze, silver and gold categories, she successfully
gained the GCSE and ‘A’ level grades required to gain
acceptance on the physiotherapy course at the Victoria University
of Manchester. She achieved a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in
Physiotherapy in 1993, culminating in a distinction in her practical
exam.
Since qualifying, Lisa moved back to the Hull area where she
took up the position of a rotational physiotherapist at Hull Royal
Infirmary.
She quickly discovered, however, that her main interest formed
around orthopaedics and musculo-skeletal problems and she soon
progressed to take up a senior position in this field.
In 1993 she worked for a local rugby union club for a season,
covering their 1st and 2nd team squads with physiotherapy treatment
for their injuries.
Shortly after this Lisa started to do some evening work at the
clinic on a part time basis, in addition to continuing with her
senior role at HRI.
More recently however, since the birth of her twin girls in 2001,
she decided to commit herself fully to APSIC and resigned her
position at HRI, taking up a more substantial role at APSIC to
become a valued member of the clinical team.
Lisa is a conscientious, hard worker, with a pleasing bed side
manner and often gains complimentary comments from patients at
the end of the course of treatment.
Having further developed her musculo-skeletal skills and techniques,
she can consider herself a true specialist in this field and joins
Jayne and Geoff to make up the third member of APSIC’s clinical
team.
Her outside interests include her family, socialising, music
and keep fit.
Suzanne Carlile -
Clinical Aromatherapist/Massage Therapist
Born in Hull, Suzanne moved to Cottingham in 1970’s,
gaining her GCE ‘O’ levels at Cottingham High School.
At 16 she won a place at the Royal Ballet School in London. however,
due to a back problem, she returned to Cottingham a year later
to complete her ‘A’ levels.
Unsure of what direct to take, Suzanne completed a secretarial
course at Hull College where she met her husband. After a couple
of short term secretarial jobs she started work as a secretary/receptionist
in the Physiotherapy Department at Hull Royal Infirmary, where
she met Jayne and Geoff Plummer.
During this time Suzanne further developed her interest in massage
and anatomy and physiology and also performed regularly with Northern
Theatre Company until 1988, when a knee injury prevented her from
continuing with her dancing.
Following the birth of her two sons Suzanne returned to the workplace
as PA in a graphic design/advertising business. Feeling the need
for a change of direction Suzanne undertook re-training at Beverley
College, gaining ITEC qualifications in Anatomy, Physiology and
Body Massage and Clinical Aromatherapy. She passed both exams
with a credit, gaining distinction in both practical assessments.
Suzanne joined Jayne and Geoff at APSIC in 1999 as an aromatherapist
and massage therapist and the following year started working part
time at the clinic as a receptionist.
In 2004 Suzanne gained a VCTC Diploma in Indian Head Massage.
Suzanne’s outside interests include going to the gym, skiing
and socialising with family and friends.
